Alvin Steele

Appears in:
Series 2, Series 3

Played By:
Mark Gatiss

Quickie Bio:
Owner of the Windermere Bed & Breakfast. Tries to make polite conversation with his guests, but simply isn't very good at it. Has a very attractive and glamorous wife, Sunny. His main interest is gardening, his wife's main interest is sex. Apparently he isn't terribly happy at home. In series three we learn that he is having a torrid affair with the very plain garden centre employee, Judith -- someone who finally shares his interests. When Daddy's machine goes awry, he's left with quite a mess on his hands...

Useless Trivia:
  • Alvin is based on an actual hotel owner in Brighton who wandered about as his guests ate and told rambling stories with no point. A rather plain man, he had a wife who was quite glamorous, and the two seemed like an unlikely pair. He basically told the Robin Hood story, nearly word-for-word as it is seen in Series 2, to the Gents during their stay.

    Sunny Steele

    Appears in:
    Series 2, Series 3

    Played By:
    Chrissie Furness

    Quickie Bio:
Alvin's glamorous wife. Is very much into her alternate lifestyle. A fan of autoerotic asphyxiation. Seems to browbeat her husband quite a bit because he's not as into their parties as she is, however she does try to give him a special surprise -- having a gardening makeover show redo their patio while they are scheduled to be away.

    Useless Trivia:
  • Sunny is based on the very glamourous wife of a hotel-owner the League met during a stay in Brighton.

    Judith Buckle

    Appears in:
    Series 3

    Played By:
    Reece Shearsmith

    Quickie Bio:
A very plain-looking garden centre employee. She is drab and speaks in a monotone, but Alvin has the hots for her in a major way, and she has the hots for him as well. She thinks of herself as a "glamorous mistress", and stands by Alvin when Sunny's party gets him into quite a fix.

    Daddy

    Appears in:
    Series 3

    Played By:
    Steve Pemberton

    Quickie Bio:
A "suburban sex guru", he's a "Guest of Honor" at the Windermere. He's a cautious man who doesn't want anyone to know that they have gathered together at the Windermere. Unfortunately, his auto-erotic asphyxiation machine, "The Medusa", runs awry when he is struck by a heart attack...

    Useless Trivia:
  • Daddy is based upon a distant relative (by marriage) of Jeremy's sister
  • The balloon-like attire worn while attached to Daddy's Medusa machine was inspired by a Channel 5 documentary seen by some of the Gents. In it, "Mr and Mrs Blow-Up" kneeled in bubbles to watch television. It had nothing to do with sex or auto-erotic asphyxiation, however.

    Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen

    Appears in:
    Series 3

    Played By:
    Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen

    Quickie Bio:
Host of the gardening makeover television show that Sunny contacted to convert Alvin's garden as a surprise. He ultimately falls victim to the "big event" of Series 3.

    Useless Trivia:
  • No, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen really isn't bald, and he doesn't wear a wig.
  • Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen couldn't get out to Hadfield for filming, so his close-up scenes were filmed before a blue screen. Shots of him in Royston Vasey were filmed with a double.
