Herr Wolf Lipp

Appears in:
Series 2, The Christmas Special, Live at Drury Lane

Played By:
Steve Pemberton

Quickie Bio:
The self proclaimed "Queen of Duisburg", Herr Lipp is an exchange student councillor from Germany. Unfortunately, he's also a pedophile who likes young boys. His broken English makes him quite amusing -- allowing him to get away with saying sexually explicit things under the guise of poor-English. Has a strange way of taking care of the victims who shun his advances (buried underground -- with a snorkel). He's married to Lotte Lipp. Oh yes, and he's a vampire as well...

In 1975 we see him as the proud leader of a church choir. He makes advances toward the young English orphan, Matthew. He eventually sacrifices himself to save Matthew.

Useless Trivia:
  • Herr Lipp's name and look came about when Steve and Reece were attempting to come up with new characters by playing around with costumes, wigs, and sellotape. Steve taped up his lip, came into the room and said, "Could this be a character?", to which Reece replied, "Herr Lipp... could be a German."
  • Herr Lipp is based upon a number of people, including various German teachers from their touring days in Germany, a self-proclaimed "Queen of Duisberg" who worked with Les Miserables, and a German woman who had a crush on Steve.
  • Herr Lipp is based on a variety of people. One in particular is a chaplain who visited Steve in a German hospital after Steve suffered a heart attack.
  • The name of Herr Lipp's home is Schwannmühle-Weg, which translates to Swanmills (which is where the Dentons live.
  • Herr Lipp's hooked-finger pointing in The Christmas Special is a nod to the original Nosferatu
  • Herr Lipp's line to Matthew ("The absence of love is the most abject pain") is a line from the 1990 Klaus Kinski remake of Nosferatu

  • Quotes:
  • If you don't understand any of my sayings, come to me in private and I shall take you in my German mouth. Alles klar?
  • Put yourself in my fist, Justin.
  • Do you want to see my pink pomplet?
  • Don't let the bugger bite you.
  • You have splashed all over me!

    Lotte Lipp

    Appears in:
    Series 2, The Christmas Special

    Played By:
    Mark Gatiss

    Quickie Bio:
Herr Lipp's wife (in name only, or so she says). Lotte travels to Royston Vasey to see what her husband is doing during his exchange stay. She tries to warn Justin to leave before it is too late, but he doesn't understand her. Herr Lipp chases her off, but she returns just after he's attacked Justin and says something to the effect of, "Oh no, not another". Oh yeah, she's a vampire too (who is angry that Herr Lipp never gave her any boys).

    Useless Trivia:
  • Lotte's look at the end of their segment of the Christmas Special is very much like Nosferatu.
  • The name of Herr & Lotte Lipp's home is Schwannmühle-Weg, which translates to Swanmills (which is where the Dentons live.

    Matthew Parker

    The Christmas Special

    Quickie Bio:
Innocent English orphan who stays with Herr Lipp and Lotte for a short while around Christmas in 1975. He has weird, scary dreams and wakes up to find vampire-esque holes in his neck. Herr Lipp ultimately sacrifices himself to save Matthew.

    Useless Trivia:
  • The open window in Matthew's dream is reminiscent of Salem's Lot (with vampires who come in through the windows). The key that appears in his hand is reminiscent of The Woman in Black.

  • I was going to stick this into you

    Quickie Bio:
The son of the woman (Roberta Smart) who houses Herr Lipp as he's visiting from Germany. He's upset when his mother comes down with the nosebleed plague, but still encourages Herr Lipp to enjoy his last days in Royston Vasey anyway. When he shuns Herr Lipp's advances, he ends up buried in his mother's flower garden (breathing through a snorkel).

    Useless Trivia:
  • Reece played the part of Justin (Justice?) during the stage shows, but didn't want to play him in Series 2 because he felt that he looked too old.
